Jason Rakers - The Baseball Player

In Jason’s Words…

Baseball has always been a great passion of mine. I am so proud to have spent 10 years pursuing a professional baseball career. I attended Shaler Area High School, The University of Pittsburgh & New Mexico State University. As a young ball player I played for Bauerstown Baseball Association.  I was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and labeled a prospect. I made my major league debut on ESPN May 15 1998. What an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment; working hard for so many years towards a goal & and here it was. I was traded to the Kansas City Royals and there I earned my 1st major league win against the Oakland Athletics. My greatest career moment was coming back to Pittsburgh and playing against the team I loved growing up. As luck would have it, on a Saturday afternoon at Three Rivers Stadium I was awarded a victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates.  What a day in front of family, friends and all the people who supported me throughout my career. That off-season I suffered a shoulder injury which plagued me the rest of my playing days. I had a brief stint with the Pirates, Orioles & another with the Indians before I retired in 2003.
